Consumer Reports on iPhone 4 reception issue: “call on Apple to provide a permanent fix”

Apple stated last Friday that the iPhone 4 Case program is ending September 30th. This was originally put in place for what Apple now calls a “small percentage of iPhone 4 users” who experienced reception issues (otherwise known as “Antennagate”). After this date if iPhone 4 customers want to solve the reception issue they can still have access to get a free Bumper, but not the selection of 7 cases that are available now.

One of the major turning points of this saga was when Consumer Reports bold declared on July 16th that they “have confirmed that there is a problem with its reception… Due to this problem, we can’t recommend the iPhone 4”. Well, Consumer Reports is back and this time taking aim at the case program. On their blog they write that their internal testing of the Bumper successfully solves the weak reception issue “but putting the onus on any owners of a product to obtain a remedy to a design flaw is not acceptable to us. We therefore continue not to recommend the iPhone 4, and to call on Apple to provide a permanent fix for the phone’s reception issues.”
