BBM 6.0 for BlackBerry OS 7 apparently coming July 27th

Here in Toronto, we like to keep our eyes peeled when we’re out and about for all the latest smartphones just in case we come upon something new and exciting. Well, more and more we’ve been seeing the unreleased BlackBerry Bold 9900 being used, which only means that production is ramping up and a release is imminent.

Today, further proof of that imminent release is here: RIM has been sending out notifications to some of its clients with the following message:

Please be advised that BlackBerry Messenger 6.0 for BlackBerry smartphones is scheduled to release as part of BlackBerry 7 OS and will be available in BlackBerry App World storefront on July 27, 2011.”

BBM 6.0 is supposed to come with a few new social features, including something called Connected Apps, which tie into your everyday favourites like Foursquare and Twitter. There will also be improvements to the Groups feature, including a geo-location element for sharing GPS details, along with sharing podcasts and webpages. Lastly, the Chat feature is supposed to be complemented with the ability to share and receive appointments with your friends and colleagues, a welcome addition that we’ve been waiting years to see.

All in all, the news is only good, as RIM cannot bring the Bold 9900 to market quickly enough.
