Gmail and Play Books updated with added features for older Android versions

Gmail and Play Books for Android got some nice updates today for older Android versions. Gmail has been given a nice update for Honeycomb devices, bringing it almost to feature parity with Ice Cream Sandwich phones and tablets. You can now swipe between conversations and set unique notifications for labels, as well as sync the last 30 days of messages for offline storage. The app has also received a spitshine for Froyo and Gingerbread devices, with some performance improvements.

As for Play Books, it seems as though Google has taken some of the nice features from Honeycomb and ICS and backported them to Froyo and Gingerbread devices. A new UI is in store for those users, with a nice 3D page turn animation, in addition to in-book searching when offline.

Head over to the My Apps tab of Google Play, and get downloadin’.
