Unofficial nightly VLC builds now available for Android phones

VLC for Windows and OS X have just been updated to version 2.0, with added features and an overhauled interface. It’s a great app for watching practically any media out of the box without installing third party codecs — it just works.

VLC for Android has been in the making for a long, long time, and, officially, it’s still nowhere to be found. But developer Austen Dicken has taken it upon himself to build the open source VLC for Android, and has committed to daily updates on his server.

The .APK is available for NEON- and non NEON-compatible devices, so older devices running Tegra 2 can participate too, albeit at a slower rendering rate.

If you’re interested in getting in on the nightly build action, head on over to the Jenkins server and let us know what you think.
