Apple may announce a smaller iPad in October: Bloomberg

According to Bloomberg’s sources Apple will release a new iPad coming in the Fall. People who have “knowledge of the plans” have revealed that the screen size should be between 7 and 8 inches, thus making it more affordable. An interesting note in the report is that this smaller iPad will come in at a lower price, but “won’t have the high-definition screen featured on the iPad that was released in March.” Apple will set their eyes on a cheaper iPad, one that will directly take on other smaller tablets such as Google’s Nexus 7, Amazon’s Kindle Fire and Microsoft’s Surface.

Analysts are already pegging the price to somewhat match other 7-inch tablets on the market with a $200(USD) price point (The 16GB iPad 2 with Wi-Fi currently sells for $419 through the Apple.ca). Previous reports indicated the price will fall in between $250-$300, plus come with a resolution of 1024×768 dimensions. However, if Apple comes in around this $200 price Shaw Wu, analyst from Sterne Agee & Leach, stated “It would be the competitors’ worst nightmare… the ball is in Apple’s court.”

Bloomberg reports that we could see the announcement in October as that’s when Apple is targeting to unload iOS 6 to the world.
