Viber has slowly been becoming a viable VoIP alternative to Skype for many mobile users, and with its latest update to version 2.2 the team is adding a bunch of requested features that are sure to make the app even more tempting.
The group messaging feature is pretty robust out of the gate — it would have to be to compete with alternatives like GroupMe, Facebook Messenger and TextNowm among others. You can also assign a background to any conversation, something that rival IM+ added recently too. Version 2.2 significantly improves sound quality of VoIP calls, too.
Viber is available for iOS, Android, BlackBerry and Windows Phone, though the latter two are in beta and haven’t received the new features. Group messaging are coming soon to the BlackBerry version.
