Electronic Arts has launched its latest free, addictive Android game, Bejeweled Blitz, to take advantage of users’ increasingly short attention spans. Like Tetris Blitz for it, the new Bejeweled follows a time-limited pattern where you have to match three gems as quickly and combo-prolific as possible.

The game looks great, with high-definition assets and a smooth framerate, and though it emphasizes connecting with your friends on Facebook that part of the game isn’t necessary. As with all free games, you can move ahead more quickly by purchasing currency for power-ups. And, if you’re into the community aspect, there are daily challenges to win prizes.

PopCap games, the creators of Bejeweled, Plants vs. Zombies and the incredibly addictive Peggle, have been around for about as long as mobile games in general. Though now owned by EA, they’re still making great products across multiple platforms.
