Apple has quietly updated its AppleCare+ terms of service to allow customers in need the option of swapping out an iOS device in any country that offers the service. Travellers can now go into any Apple store and receive a hardware replacement as long as that country has the same SKU.
Previously, users would pay a one-time incident fee of $39, but it was limited to the home country. With the launch of the iPhone 5s and 5c, Apple has done away with that restriction, letting customers in Austria, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States receive support under AppleCare+. The fee, however, has been raised to $79 per incident.
AppleCare+ is a service that, when purchased alongside a new iOS device, offers customers the option of swapping out damaged hardware — even those that don’t fall under the auspices of regular warranty work, such as water damage — for a flat fee. In addition to the per-item fee, it costs $79.99 for the two-year warranty extension.
