1Password for Android announces premium pricing for certain features with 4.1 update

Back in June, Android users were treated to a massive 1Password update. At the time, developer AgileBits explained that the app would be free in its entirety at launch but certain features would be locked away and only available to premium users after August 1.

August 1 came and went with no word from the 1Password crew. If you were starting to think you might have free access to 1Password’s entire suite of features for free, we have bad news. Today, Toronto-based AgileBits announced the launch of 1Password 4.1 for Android and the update comes the freemium price model we were promised earlier this summer.

The free version of 1Password will allow users to view all items in the vault, delete items from the vault, browse favourite sites with 1Password’s built-in web view, access all options in settings (including PIN code and Rich Icons), and configure sync with Dropbox or Folder Sync. It’s a reader client for your vault.

If you want the ability to create and add an unlimited number of new items, modify existing items, organize items into folders, or mark/unmark items as Favourites, you’ll need the premium version. This will require an in-app purchase priced at $9.99. Right now, there’s a discount that brings the price down to $7.99 and all new users will be able to test drive the premium features for free for a month.
