Basis unveils new Basis Peak fitness and sleep tracker

Intel-owned Basis first teased us about its new smartband in the first week of September. Given the timing, we assumed the device would make an appearance at IDF. That wasn’t the case, though, and we’ve been wondering about the device ever since.

This week, the company surprised us with the announcement of a brand new fitness and sleep tracker called the Basis Peak. The Peak boasts a four day battery and is capable of tracking activity and sleep. It will also monitor your heart rate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and will help you build up Healthy Habits (like standing once an hour or going to bed at the same time every night).

The watch utilizes iOS and Android companion apps that allow users to view steps, calories burned, sleep, and data from Basis’s own BodyIQ, which leverages the watch’s sensors to log energy burned during sleep and other activities. Basis promises smartphone notifications are coming before the end of the year via a free software update.

The Basis Peak will launch in November in the United States and is scheduled for Canadian availability before the holidays. Pricing for the USA is set at $199.
