In the closing hours of IFA today, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Alcatel OneTouch announced the 5-inch Pop Star smartphone, the latest high-end budget phone in the company’s Pop lineup of devices.
The Pop Star seems focused on customization, offering consumers a variety of different backings for the device. Users can choose from a selection of “wild colours and psychedelic designs” in the Funky Collection or opt for a classic look with the Pop Star’s Leather Collection. And if you happen to be feeling environmentally friendly or clothing oriented, the Pop Star offers Nature-ECO wood and a Fashion Collection backing as well.
A 3G and 4G version of the phone comes equipped with a 1.0GHz Quad-Core (3G), 1.0GHz Quad-Core (4G), 2000mAh battery, 8 megapixel rear camera (an improvement over the 8 megapixel camera featured in past Pop devices), 5 megapixel front camera, 5-inch 720p HD IPS display, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. The device will also run on Android 5.0 Lollipop.
“Pop Star is our most fashion-forward smartphone with a large collection of covers, consumers can choose the cover they like and fully express their own style,” said Cheol WooPark, chief designer at Alcatel OneTouch, in a statement to MobileSyrup.
Alcatel also announced a lower-end device, the Pop Up, but it’s unlikely it will make its way to Canada.
The company says they are not releasing any additional information regarding Canadian pricing or availability for the Pop Star or Pop Up at this time.
