HTC could be the sole manufacturer of upcoming Nexus devices

Despite the furor surrounding the Vive, HTC’s smartphone efforts have been less than stellar lately, though what we’ve seen of the HTC 10 looks promising so far.

Rumours have been swirling around for years that Google is considering shutting down its Nexus program, opting to instead manufacture its own proprietary Android smartphones. New speculation, however, indicates that HTC might have signed an exclusive deal with Google to be the sole manufacturer behind the company’s next-generation of Nexus devices. This corroborates earlier rumours we reported indicating LG won’t be developing a new Nexus device in 2016.

Next year, it’s rumoured HTC will release a 5-inch and a 5.5-inch Nexus device. The report doesn’t mention tablets, so it’s possible other manufacturers could handle production of Nexus tablets. This also could be an indication that Google no longer has interest in releasing tablets, though the company recently released the Pixel C.
