Sorry Nexus owners, Google’s customizable Live Cases aren’t available in Canada yet

A few years ago rumours surfaced of a “Google Workshop” initiative designed to allow Nexus owners to create customized cases for their smartphone. While a bit delayed, Google has officially launched this often-rumoured concept as “Live Cases.”

Unfortunately, these customizable cases are not yet available to Canadians.

There are two options available for Google’s new cases – which retail for $35 USD – Live Case and Places Live Case. The service is currently available to Nexus 6, Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P owners. Google’s Live Cases give users the ability to upload a picture, which can then be customized with filters and resized, and then have that image plastered across a case. Additionally, the Places Live Case gives the option to select a location on Google Maps, snap a screenshot, and apply it to a case.

Interestingly, Google has another custom case option that features an embedded NFC tag that redirects to a Google Play store Live Case app. This cool feature actually makes the image on your case the phone’s wallpaper. Google’s custom cases also add a shortcut button to the  phone, which can be programmed to quickly launch an app.

MobileSyrup has reached out to Google for information on whether there are plans to sell the case in Canada.
