Wind Mobile completes its second Western network upgrade in Calgary area

With its second major network upgrade taking place today, Wind Mobile customers in the Calgary area will enjoy faster, better network speeds.

The company’s first Western network upgrade took place across the Greater Vancouver area and was announced in December of 2015 for completion by the end of January 2016.

The spectrum of upgrades include faster data speeds, better network coverage and improved call quality. These changes follow the completion of a significant network infrastructure upgrade.

In a statement sent to MobileSyrup, the company’s CEO said that customers experienced a noticeable difference.

“We are really pleased to have completed the second Western market in our continuing network upgrade journey. It is so exciting to hear customers tell us that they are experiencing a noticeable improvement in their service,” said Alek Krstajic, president and CEO of Wind Mobile.

Similar network enhancements are taking place in Edmonton, as the company has committed to improving its network across all active markets.

Wind has also committed to bringing LTE service to the networks it serves across Canada.

Approximately 940,000 people are subscribed to the wireless network across Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia. Wind Mobile was acquired by Shaw media for $1.6 billion in March.

When the company was acquired, Shaw stated that it would continue to build out the company’s wireless infrastructure, starting with the introduction of a 4G LTE network.
