8Bitdo, the company behind some of the best Bluetooth gamepads on the market, launched a Kickstarter today for a new special controller that takes inspiration from Apple’s multicoloured retro logo.
The gamepad, called the the AP40, marks Apple’s 40th anniversary, and similar to the company’s past products, it’s compatible with PC, Mac, iOS, Android, Windows and even classic game consoles if you purchase Analog’s Retro Receiver adapter.
Along with the gamepad, 8Bitdo also has plans to release a stand modeled after the classic Apple II as well as a new receiver that’s compatible with the original Apple II/IIc. Yes, you read that correctly: you can actually use this controller with the Apple II.
The controller is set to retail for $49 USD each with stand bundle costing $70 USD, with an estimated January shipping date. The Kickstarter campaign is set for a goal of $125,000 HKD, which is approximately $16,000 USD.
While the AP40 is really just a reskinned version of 8Bitdo’s NES30 Pro, it’s a great, nostalgia-infused aesthetic upgrade most retro Apple fans will find difficult to ignore.
