Toronto Parking Authority now lets customers pay for on-street parking through its mobile app

By the end of this year, Toronto residents will be able to use their smartphones to pay for parking in all types of city run parking spaces.

The City of Toronto and the Toronto Parking Authority are teaming up to let customers pay for on-street parking through the Green P mobile app. The app gives users the ability to pay for parking using their smartphones, sends reminders when their session is about to expire and lets customers extend their parking session using the app.

“This is all about making people’s lives just a bit easier. The Green P app is an example of how we can modernize the services the City offers and the way the City delivers them,” said Mayor Tory. “The people of Toronto want a city that works at their speed, which is why I am glad to see progress that finally meets the needs of the 21st century.”

In addition, the app itself is free of charge. Green P was first deployed in Mach, 2015 for non-gated, off-street parking lots. Since then the app has been downloaded 250 thousand times, and 1.5 million parking transactions have been made through the app.

On-street, paid parking locations have been assigned 4-digit location IDs that will be available on pay and display machines as the rollout takes place. The rollout will begin this month and will be completed by the end of the year.
