The Martian VR Experience is now available in Canada [Update]

The Martian VR Experience

After making an appearance at CES 2016, The Martian VR Experience, a virtual reality adaptation of the 2015 Ridley Scott film, The Martian (itself an adaption of the original Andy Weir novel), is coming out on PlayStation VR and HTC Vive tomorrow.

Set to cost $27 in Canada, the experience puts viewers in the boots of Mark Watney, the film’s astronaut protagonist, played by Matt Damon in the movie, allowing them to see and experience some of the movie’s pivotal scenes, including the one where Watney repurposes radioactive plutonium into a heat source, from their own perspective.

Ridley Scott, the film’s director, served as executive producer on the experience on the Fox Innovation Lab-made experience. According to the latter, the final product features “technical and narrative improvements” over what the studio showed off at CES.

The Martian VR Experience marks the first time a major Hollywood studio has released a commercial VR title. The studio plans to release other VR titles in the future. “Our intention from the moment we developed our business plan was to be in the commercial VR business,” said Mike Dunn, president of the Fox Innovation Lab.

If you’re an Oculus Rift owner, you can expect the title to land on your platform in the near future.

Update: The Martian VR Experience is now available in Canada and you can grab it here from Steam.
