Apple is reportedly testing AR features for the next iPhone

It seems like the next iPhone could incorporate augmented reality capabilities. Based on recent reports from Bloomberg, Tim Cook is getting serious about bringing AR features to Apple’s most successful device.

Apple has reportedly begun work on several AR products including spectacles that connect wirelessly to the iPhone and beam content like movies and videos through the lenses.

While the spectacles are still a ways off, other AR features could show up in the iPhone sooner. Analysts have predicted that the global market for AR products will increase by 80 percent, or $165 billion by 2024.

An AR-enabled iPhone wouldn’t be the first time a manufacturer has experimented with AR potential in a smartphone. Last year, Lenovo introduced the world’s first Tango-enabled smartphone, the Phab 2 Pro.

Project Tango is a Google initiative to bring AR features to smartphones, though there’s been little word of developing the platform further since then.

Apple has yet to make any announcements regarding how AR features could be incorporated into the iPhone in the future.
