The Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) has announced that ‘wine is coming’ this summer in the form of three vintages themed after the hit TV show Game of Thrones. The wines will launch exclusively through its online store at LCBO.com between June 7th and June 21st, then in select LCBO locations on July 12th.
The three wines are being produced by reported super-fan Bob Cabral and California’s Vintage Wine Estates and comprise two reds and a white. There’s the House Lannister-themed golden Chardonnay from the Central Coast, which rings in at $29.95 CAD; the House Targaryen-themed red blend from Paso Robles, which also comes in at $29.95, and the House Stark-themed Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley which is a pricey $74.95 and will be sold only online.
“I’m a huge Game of Thrones fan, and these wines capture the complexity of the drama,” said Cabral in a statement. “But the wines also have great pedigree. We source grapes from premier vineyard sites and use the finest winemaking techniques to create wines of incredible richness and texture.”
The launch of the limited-edition wines is timed with the return of season seven of Game of Thrones on July 16th.
For those who live in Toronto and would rather taste the wares before purchasing them, the LCBO says customers are welcome to “toast the arrival of King’s Landing’s vintages” on July 12th from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at LCBO Queen’s Quay, 2 Coopers Street.
LCBO’s online ordering and delivery service launched in July 2016 with 5,000 products available, 800 of which are online exclusives. A minimum of $50 of alcohol can be purchased through the LCBO’s website, which is then delivered to either a local store or home address through Canada Post with a shipping fee of $12 plus tax. Postal workers are required to ask for identification proving age upon delivery.
