Samsung’s Exynos 9 Series 9810 processor is capable of 1.2Gbps LTE speeds

Samsung quietly announced its newest Exynos processor, the Exynos 9 Series 9810, in a press release highlighting its CES 2018 Innovation Award wins.

The chipset, the successor to the Exynos 8895, is Samsung’s upcoming flagship processor for its Samsung Galaxy S9 or Note 9 devices. While it’s unlikely the chipset will be stocked in the Canadian variants of those smartphones, it is expected to arrive in Samsung’s flagships elsewhere around the world.

The press release doesn’t mention all of the 9810’s technical specifications, but it says the processor will have an upgraded CPU and GPU which support gigabit LTE speeds with “3rd-generation custom CPU cores, upgraded GPU, and gigabit LTE modem with industry-first 6CA support.”

The release also notes that the chip is built on “2nd generation 10nm process technology.”

6CA technology in the 9810 should allow for download speeds up to 1.2Gbps which is comparable to the speeds within the Kirin 970 chipset within the Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro. The 9810 will also have a new Category 18 LTE modem, and uses 6-band LTE aggregation technology.

While it seems Samsung’s 9810 is similar to the Kirin 970, it’s specifications will not be unveiled until CES 2018 this January. It’ll be interesting to see how the Exynos Series 9 9810 processor stacks up against the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, which will no doubt include the company’s X20 LTE modem, also capable of 1.2Gbps speeds and announced in February 2017.

Samsung’s press release also announced that the South Korean company won several CES 2018 Innovation Awards for its products, including the Gear Sport, Fit 2 Pro and Gear IconX (2018).
