It sometimes feels like technology and fitness have been intertwined since the dawn of the smartphone. After all, what’s the point of advanced technology if not to help humans improve themselves, and what better way to make a positive change in one’s life than by maintaining a healthy physical well-being?
Continuing the tech world’s noble tradition of implementing technology into the day-to-day objects we find around the house, Nokia’s Body smartscale is designed to provide a veritable medley of different weight information in a device that costs $79.95 CAD.
The device itself is no larger than a regular bathroom scale. It’s sleek and modern, and comes in both black and white variants.
As you can probably imagine, the Body scale works just like a regular bathroom scale, and provides weight data in both pounds and kilograms. Furthermore, the scale also tracks users’ eight previous weigh ins, providing them with a catalogued history of their weight.
It’s important to note, however, that most of the hard math takes place in Nokia’s Health Mate app, for both Android and iOS.
The scale itself connects to Android and iOS devices via Bluetooth, and sends weight data to the Health Mate app for post-processing. The app keeps track of activity data, sleep patterns, weight data, heart rate and a number of other metrics, in order to calculate the overall health of a particular user.
Again, the scale itself doesn’t measure heart rate or metrics other than weight, but by inputting your own information into the Health Mate app, you’ll be able to get a broad-spectrum look at your overall well-being.
The Health Mate app also communicates with a number of other health apps — including the iOS Health app and the Nike+ Run Club app — in order to gather, distribute and analyze even more data to ensure that you’re in tip-top shape.
The Nokia Body Scale costs $79.95 CAD, and the Health Mate app is free on both Android and iOS.
The fact of the matter is that, if you’re not the kind of person who relies on connected devices to track your health, then you already know if this device is for you.
However, if you enjoy digitally logging and tracking your personal health — or if you need to keep track of your weight and other weight-related metrics — then the Nokia Body Scale will fit perfectly with your lifestyle.
